07.08.10 @ The Chance.

HOLY CRAP WAS IT A SCORCHER!  And the weather was hot too.

It feels like forever since I’ve posted a blog but I havn’t really had much musical news to post.  Either way, HERE I AM AGAIN!

Last night we played at the Chance in Poughkeepsie and it felt like we were playing on the sun.  We were the second band to go on and I must say, that stage was cramped.  All four acts had their equipment set up at the same time.  The first act is from Albany (I think) and did an acoustic set.  That may have been a smart move since they were sitting on stools not working up more of a sweat then needed.  They must not have had an idea of time because after every song the singer kept asking “how much time we got left”.  It was almost like he wanted to get off.  Well they did their 30 minutes then they got off.

Up next, FREAKSWITCH!  WOO HOO!
So we squeeze onto the stage, did I tell you it was cramped up there?  ok, just checkin.  After our introduction we kicked off our night with “Walk Away” and immediately got a good response.  I’m thinking people are starting to know our songs a little.  Did I mention it was hot in there?  Well after we played the first I was soaking wet and ready to pass out.  Everything felt like it was going to be one kick ass show.  We were chugging along, firing on all cylinders UNTIL…….  The heat must’ve taken over because the train de-railed and on the worst song possible.  As you know we are an original band.  We the past few shows we’ve played a cover song to help get the haters in the mood for the national acts.  Lets me just say that the beginning of Sweet Leaf didn’t go as planned.  And it was bad enough that the crowd picked up on it.  FRET NOT!  We put that train back on the track less then 30 seconds in.

For those of you that know the non-Mike in the band, you know that Brain is probably the biggest smart ass alive.  The man just cracks me up everytime I talk to him.  I thought he set himself up for downer when he asked the crowd what the name of our band was.  Guess what, they actually shouted out FREAK-SWITCH!  It made me chuckle.

What was great is that as our set went on, more and more people were getting into it by actually showing more body movement other then just bobbing their head to the tempo.   So as we ended the night with “Wrong Direction” I must admit, the applause at the end was one of the loudest I’ve heard.

Thanks to all the friends who came out to see us last night.  Thanks to all the new friends we made.  And thanks to George Pruitt for taking pics (posted soon)

TONIGHT (07.09.10) we are playing the annual 101.5 WPDH Roof-a-thon to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes at Mesier park in the Village of Wappingers.  We go on at 6pm.  If you can’t get there to see us, make sure you make your way down there at some point this weekend and drop some change in teh buckets as well as supporting other local acts.

until next time……
