*interior* – Freakswitch arrives early and begins to set up their gear while poking at each others funny bones with jabs of nonsense and hurtful, but yet funny remarks.
(Crowd begins to form outside)
*sound check* – A voice from the heavens calls down upon us and says “Can I hear the kick drum please?”
“Yes Jesus” we replied and begin to do as he commands. (After all, we don’t want to piss off the man upstairs.)
“Mic check please?” (not to be confused with the three Mikes that are in the band) And with a stomp of my foot, the talk box is activated and I begin to play a very Frampton-esk “DO YOU FEEL, LIKE I DO……….”. All 3 people at the bar lost their minds at that point. Once we finish checking all instruments and mics, we hear:
“Thank you gentlemen.”
“You welcome.” Mama always told me to be polite. ESPECIALLY when it comes to hay-Zeus.
*exterior* – Hundreds of thousands of people begin to line up outside. It was like an ocean of humanity screaming “FREAK-SWITCH FREAK-SWITCH” My nipples were so hard at that time, they could cut glass.
Ok, fine. It was more like 30-40 people outside. But I had you thinking for just a second didn’t I.
Doors open and all hell breaks loose. I couldn’t believe all the people that came out to support local live music. Come to find out it was TWO DOLLAR SHAEFER BEER NIGHT!!!!!!! sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
As the night progresses it’s our turn to play. As soon as Freakswitch was introduced, all heads turned our way as if to say “ok, I don’t know who you are so you better impress me.” And impress them we did. Brian’s vocals were spot on the entire night. Not to mention he can be one funny mo-fo at times. Mike S is on point behind his kit, add in Mike P and his bass on 11, the roof felt like it was coming down.
“Thank you goodnight, visit us at freakswitch.com”
After we tear down, we attempt to make our way through the hundreds of thousands of people signing autographs on the way and ………. ok, I’ll stop.
It was good times at Savannah’s. People seemed to really enjoy our music and stage antics (i.e. Mike K kicking over Brians mic stand and Brian slapping Mike K). Ralph Renna from 104.9 The Edge seemed to like us and told us he wants us back in the future. The bartender/owner was buying us drinks and also told us he would like us back. Alfred went out of his way to thank us for being there and he really enjoyed it. Not to mention the gratuitous “you guys were awesome” from quite a few people.
I really do hope that everyone liked us there. It’s a nice place and I would love to go back there to play.
side note: Come to find out, the voice from above wasn’t Jesus. It was the sound tech. SILLY ME!
Until next time, Check us out at Cousin Larry’s in Danbury CT next Thursday (07.30.09)
