Thank you facebook….. (3.5.10 w/ Sponge)

Before the day even started, this was a big show for us.  Not that it should’ve been different from any other. but we as a band sold 91 tickets to this show.  Thats a lot of friggin people for a local original act.  Mike Polito’s family is awesome.  They come to practically every show.  And it seems like there are more that come with every passing show. There was a good chance that if you stopped anyone there and asked them if they were a Polito, they would’ve said yes.  Then there is Scratch, his family isn’t too small either.  Plus his co-workers come support him as well.  As for me, I have to give all my thanks to Facebook.  I made a few posts about the show and friends from 20 plus years ago (that I haven’t seen) wanted to reconnect and come to the show.

And might I say, THEY ARE AWESOME! Every last one of them must’ve forgot what I dick I was back in the day.  Because we talked about present day families as well as remembered funny stories from back in the day.  I was having such a good time talking that I almost didn’t want to play.  I said ALMOST!!!!

The first two bands went on and they were pretty damn good.  The music was melodic and the singers actually sang.  Not like I hear today where the singers are either trying to hack up a hair ball or puke.  I would love to work with either one of those bands again on future shows.

Then it came to our turn. The chance doesn’t like me.  Every time I play there, something goes wrong.  I’ve had amps quit working, processors fried, talk box shot and hopefully this time will be different.  I mean how can it go bad, there is no way my brand new processor and foot board can shit the bed right? WRONG!  While in the midst of Chuck announcing upcoming shows and getting the crowd ready for us (mostly Sponge), I do a quick guitar tuning check and so it began.  The foot board wasn’t working.  FRET NOT! Rob stilesI managed to survive.  I think it was my friend from back in the day Rob and his kid right in the front harassing me that got me through.  He had me laughing the entire time.  As I looked through the crowd I saw all the people that came to see me, waiting for some kind of reaction.  I guess after looking at Rob jumping up and down giving me shit (as well as cheering me on), any reaction from everyone else would be “mellow”.  There was my brutha from another mutha Bob feeling no pain (courtesy of Bud Light) paying close attention to all the music.  Then there was Billy behind Rob just smiling having a good time.  His kids Joey and Billy were working the merch table (thanks guys).  Sue and her posse were back one level snapping a few pics.  The misses was off to my right in my line of sight which is because she knows I like to see her.  Vicki and Mikey were close by watching me (Mikey wants to learn how to play guitar).  And then there was Jaime.  He is probably the one person there that I have known the longest.  Him an I go all the way back to junior high.  This guy is one of the most laid back, easiest people to talk to.  He took pics that night on his phone and had them posted on Facebook before we even finished our set.  The one thing I forgot to do was gather them all together and take a picture this way I can prove that people at least pretend to like me.  lol

So as the night when on, the crowd response was getting louder and louder.  Outside of a freakswitch chant, it sounded like we were the main act.  Sponge was out side listening and loved the reaction were getting.  I think from my own opinion, the highlight of our set was in the middle of “Seize the Moment” where there is a bass solo.  People lost their minds.  And I was enjoying it as well.  It wasn’t supposed to be as long as it was, but I wanted him to go on because it was kicking ass.

I have to give kudos to Brian (our singer).  He was sick all week and his voice was so weak.  But somehow he managed to keep it together long enough to make it through.

Thanks everyone to who came out to support us.  We as a band had a blast.  We hope you can come to future shows.

Now it looks like with all the BBQ offers I’ve had that night, I won’t have to be cooking at all this summer (I don’t cook anyway)

Until next time.
