And the winner is?

As you know by reading this blog on a weekly basis, Freakswitch was entered into a Battle of the Bands (aka Rock Fight) this past Friday.  Well it was an outside event and it was pouring outside giving way to steady rain periodicly.

This was a two day contest.  They had about 7 bands per night.  The winner from Friday night would go against the winner from Saturday night at 1am Saturday (Sunday morning).  With the winner of those two would be playing again at 3 am and be crowned King of the Campground.

Now how the voting worked was that you were given a ticket upon entry of the event.  On that ticket you are to write the name of the band you wish to vote for and submit it to the people running the show so that they can tally up the totals.  Good thing we’re not in Florida huh?

Well the show went on regardless of the weather.  I would say about 30 or so were in the audience (under shelter) making the most of their time.

Freakswitch went on forth Friday night.  We were expecting difficulties and surprisingly there was minimul.  Brians mic kept cutting out.  So at times he sounded like a bad cell phone call.  Can you hear me now? Good.  The only other that would’ve been nice was more monitors.  Good thing Scratch knows how to count because he couldn’t hear anything.  Kudos to him.

With all that going on, halfway through the show we decided “WHAT THE HELL!” we threw in a new song that we’ve been working on.  SHHHHHH! Don’t tell anyone but we screwed it up a little. Nothing major.

At the end Brian thanked the crowd for supporting local music and toughing out the weather and Freakswitch exits the stage.

Mike P. left immediately because he had to work 6am Sunday morning.  I myself left roughly 30 minutes after that.  It was a long drive home and I had shit I had to do the next day.

Brian and Scratch stayed the night at the site in Brians kick ass camper.

At 3 am I get a text from Brian telling me that the the people that put the event on are very upset with us.  So when I asked why, he responded with “They are pissed because they called us to let us know we WON and I had to tell them we have to forfeit because we won’t be able to play the following night.”

Oh well, shit happens.  Like I said earlier, we didn’t enter to win.  We entered because we wanted to play our music and hopefully get a foot in the door.

Looks like we accomplished that.

side note:  For the record, the event planners  really REALLY enjoyed our music and wanted to hear more.  So when they couldn’t get their complete Freakswitch fix, it upset them a little.  I think you’ll see us there again.

continue to check the gig page to see upcoming shows.

Until next time…….
